Sierra Madre GmbH Expands Its Whisky Expertise: New Brands Enrich the Portfolio

Sierra Madre GmbH is expanding its portfolio with exclusive whisky brands, further reinforcing its position in the premium spirits market.

Sierra Madre GmbH is taking the next strategic step by expanding its portfolio with renowned whisky brands. As of 1 April 2026, the Hagen-based company will take over distribution in Germany for the Scottish brands Balblair, Old Pulteney, anCnoc, and Hankey Bannister from the International Beverage Group. In addition, Sierra Madre will introduce the Thai whisky Prakaan to the German market. In doing so, Sierra Madre is strengthening its position as a leading supplier of premium spirits while strategically advancing its whisky expertise.

Creating synergies: expanding marketing responsibility

“With the addition of these new brands, we are building on the success we have already achieved with Speyburn,” explains Christopher Klotz, Head of Marketing at Sierra Madre GmbH. “Since 2024, we have successfully established the International Beverage Group brand in Germany and significantly increased both distribution and revenue. It was therefore a logical step for the group’s other whisky brands to now come under our marketing responsibility as well.” Another factor behind Sierra Madre taking on these brands was International Beverage Group’s strategy of working with only one distribution partner per country. “By bringing all brands together under one roof, we can create synergies and strengthen the brands’ presence in Germany in a sustainable way,” Klotz adds.

A strong addition to the portfolio

With this portfolio expansion, Sierra Madre is placing a clear focus on strengthening its whisky expertise. While the company has previously been especially successful with a rum-dominated range that includes brands such as Don Papa, A.H. Riise, and its own brand Remedy, the whisky segment has so far been less prominent. “With brands such as 1776 Bourbon and Kinahans Irish Whiskey, we already had established products in our range, but we were looking for opportunities to further increase our relevance in the market. The addition of Balblair, Old Pulteney, anCnoc, Hankey Bannister, and Prakaan is a key step in broadening our position and establishing ourselves as a strong long-term partner in the whisky segment,” Klotz emphasizes.

Challenges and opportunities in the whisky market

Despite the current challenges in the whisky market, which has been under pressure since 2023, Sierra Madre sees significant potential in this new direction. While the overall market in 2025 is down by around 9% in revenue and 12% in volume compared to 2023, Scotch — which accounts for around 35% of the total whisky segment — has been hit particularly hard, with volume losses of more than 20%. Premium-priced products in particular are facing challenges. Sierra Madre remains confident: “We see a major opportunity in the current market situation to position ourselves as a reliable partner for premium whiskies,” says Klotz. “With a clear strategy and our dedicated team, we are ideally positioned to succeed and inspire consumers with our products.”

The official distribution launch of the new brands Balblair, Old Pulteney, anCnoc, Hankey Bannister, and Prakaan by Sierra Madre GmbH is 1 April 2026.
