The Caribbean as Rum’s Garden of Eden

In the 19th century, St. Croix was known as “The Garden of the West Indies.” Its fertile climate and nutrient-rich soils made the island ideal for cultivating sugarcane. More than 200 distilleries processed the local molasses into what the world came to prize as St. Croix rum.

Albert Heinrich Riise – The Pharmacist as Pioneer

Albert Heinrich Riise settled on St. Thomas in 1838. There he developed not only medicines but also exceptional spirits—aromatic blends with depth and character. One of his most famous was Old St. Croix Rum, which he marketed internationally under that name.

A Successful Brand Legacy, Revived

Today, the name Old St. Croix returns—as a modern brand with historical foundations. The move from A.H. Riise to Old St. Croix is globally oriented yet firmly rooted in history. A name that’s easier to pronounce—but hard to forget.

Sierra Madre is the exclusive importer of Old St. Croix in Germany.
