This limited edition commemorates the first circumnavigation of the globe more than 500 years ago and the daring explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Following the rapid sell-out of the first edition, Port Quincentennial became a highly sought-after rarity and is now returning in a second, strictly limited release.
Inspired by Ferdinand Magellan and his odyssey
More than 500 years ago, the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan initiated the first historically documented circumnavigation of the globe. Driven by a spirit of discovery and curiosity, Magellan faced the challenges of uncharted seas and embarked on a three-year odyssey that ultimately brought him to the Philippines. It is precisely there that Don Papa Port Quincentennial matures for over five years in ruby port casks, emerging today as a rum full of vibrancy, freshness, and character.
A unique maturation process for an exceptional tasting experience
Following the success of the first edition, which was aged for seven years, this new release brings together rums aged seven and ten years. Maturation takes place slowly in the unique volcanic climate of Negros Island and in the foothills of Mount Kanlaon, a terroir that lends each individual cask depth, freshness, and character. The complex aging process begins with two years in aromatic bourbon casks before the rum is transferred into port casks. Don Papa Port Quincentennial delights with a layered and complex aroma:
- On the nose, resonant, deep notes of liquorice, polished oak, dark chocolate, and muscovado sugar unfold first. These are complemented by a hint of zesty blood orange and ripe red berries, while a gentle aroma of fresh vanilla pods rounds off the composition.
- On the palate, the rum is rich and complex. Toasted oak, cinnamon, Arabica coffee, and toffee merge harmoniously with the sweet freshness of vanilla, accompanied by subtle notes of freshly picked orchard fruit and a touch of brown sugar.
- The finish is exceptionally long and dry, with delicate echoes of dark cocoa powder and a fine hint of dried figs, rounding off the experience perfectly.
