The Story of Don Papa

Don Papa Rum is a premium Filipino rum from the island of Negros. Don Papa, also known as Papa Isio, remains one of the few well-known heroes of the Philippine Revolution. Before joining the fight for the country’s independence, he worked as a humble foreman on a sugarcane plantation. Over time, memories of Don Papa’s revolutionary achievements faded, but the harvested sugarcane continues to symbolize his legacy. His energy and relentless fighting spirit are infused into every bottle of this exceptional rum, which is produced and distributed exclusively in small batches.

The Land: The Sugar Island of Negros

For more than a century, Negros was known as the “sugar bowl” of the Philippines. From the mid-19th century to the 1980s, sugarcane cultivation dominated the region. This rugged island, with its lush jungles and white sandy beaches, owes its fame to sugarcane. The fertile volcanic soil provided the ideal conditions for one of the most successful and sweetest sugarcane varieties. Across the island, historic estates produced this valuable raw material, shaping Negros’ legacy as a sugar powerhouse.

The Production of Don Papa

Don Papa Rum is exclusively sourced from the island of Negros. This premium aged rum is distilled from one of the world’s finest sugarcane varieties and matures at the foot of Mount Kanlaon. Aged for over seven years in American oak barrels, it undergoes a meticulous blending process to achieve perfection before being bottled in small batches.

Sierra Madre is the exclusive importer of Don Papa in Germany.
