Distilled with handpicked, hard-to-find botanicals from the Amazon, CANAÏMA offers an aromatic glimpse into the breathtaking nature of Venezuela. The plants and herbs, which may seem unusual for gin distillation, open up a previously unknown flavor dimension – perfectly suited to the tropical high-summer temperatures.
Unique lighting conditions and a very special climate nourish a wealth of unexplored ingredients and plants under the dense canopy of the rainforest. It’s no coincidence that the indigenous Pemón people call their region the “mystical land,” whose botanical heritage they carefully pass down from generation to generation. With their exceptional knowledge, they handpick the hard-to-reach raw materials from the depths of the Amazon.
Eight traditional gin botanicals are blended by the Master Distiller with ten handpicked Amazonian botanicals. In addition to the intensely purple Acai fruit, the Seje palm fruit, or Merey – a resin from the leaves of the cashew tree – there are also rare jungle treasures such as the Tupiro fruit, Copoazú (used for making jam), and the Moriche palm fruit, known as the “love fruit” due to its high content of female hormones. These impart CANAÏMA with its unconventional and distinctive flavor. The traditional botanicals such as juniper, lemon and orange peel, angelica root, and coriander provide the classic gin notes. Each botanical is individually macerated and separately distilled in a traditional 500-liter copper pot still to create a unique blend.
