Old Pulteney Celebrates 200th Anniversary with Two of the Oldest Releases in Its History

To mark its anniversary, the brand is now presenting two special and strictly limited releases: the Old Pulteney 50 Years Old and the Old Pulteney 30 Years Old. Both whiskies were created to honour two centuries of whisky making in Wick and rank among the most exclusive creations in the distillery’s history.

In 2026, Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky celebrates its 200th anniversary. Since its founding in 1826 in Wick, on the north coast of Scotland, its proximity to the sea, the rugged coastal landscape and a pursuit of the highest level of craftsmanship have shaped Old Pulteney’s distinctive character.

Deeply Rooted in Its Coastal Home of Wick

Founded by James Henderson in Wick, then Europe’s largest herring fishing port, Old Pulteney has always been inseparably connected to the sea through its origins. Shaped by the harsh conditions of the North Sea and a turbulent history that even included the temporary closure of the distillery, the distillery has always emerged stronger from crises. Today, Old Pulteney stands as a symbol of true resilience, authenticity and a deep connection to the Scottish coast.

Commenting on the anniversary, Malcolm Waring, Distillery Manager of Pulteney Distillery, says: “Our 200th anniversary is a significant milestone for our distillery, our community and our whisky. It represents the knowledge and dedication that Old Pulteney has preserved since 1826. We look forward to celebrating this occasion together with Old Pulteney enthusiasts around the world, while also opening the next chapter in our story.”

Old Pulteney 50 Years Old: The Oldest Release in the Distillery’s History

As the oldest whisky Old Pulteney has ever released, the 50 Years Old embodies the pinnacle of the distinctive character that has defined the distillery for two centuries. For this extraordinary anniversary release, four hogsheads were selected, each having matured for half a century under the harsh conditions of Scotland’s north coast. Together, these four casks symbolise 200 years of whisky making in Wick and lend this rare release its incomparable depth and maritime complexity. The casks are predominantly made from American oak, allowing Old Pulteney’s maritime character and the influence of long maturation to fully unfold. A subtle finishing in European oak adds further depth and elegance. Carefully overseen and personally selected by Sarah Burgess, Master of Whisky Creation at Old Pulteney, this rare release was created in an edition of just 200 bottles worldwide. Old Pulteney 50 Years Old is presented in a handcrafted case made from premium oak and inspired by driftwood. Inside is a mouth-blown lead crystal decanter, making each bottle unique. Finely sandblasted wave motifs pay tribute to the maritime influences that have shaped this single malt over decades. In the glass, the whisky reveals a radiant gold colour with deep brilliance. On the nose, intense notes of chocolate, dried fruits and spicy cedarwood unfold, accompanied by creamy vanilla and floral nuances. On the palate, candied orange peel and citrus oils meet fine oak notes and exceptional depth. The long finish fades with tropical fruits and elegant maritime finesse. Old Pulteney 50 Years Old is bottled at 40.8% ABV and is strictly limited in quantity. Pricing information is available on request.

Old Pulteney 30 Years Old: A Rare Tribute to 200 Years of Craftsmanship

With Old Pulteney 30 Years Old, the distillery presents a second extraordinary anniversary release, created exclusively to mark its 200th anniversary. Matured for more than three decades in American oak, finished in European oak and shaped by decades of influence from Scotland’s north coast, it represents the authentic maritime soul of the distillery. The casks were personally filled by Distillery Manager Malcolm Waring. The limited anniversary release is presented in an elegant crystal decanter, whose neck was inspired by the distillery’s historic stills. Rose-gold details and a sandblasted wave motif underline the whisky’s maritime origins. In the glass, Old Pulteney 30 Years Old appears in a deep copper hue. Candied almonds, sweet oak, pear, green apple and delicate citrus notes define the aroma. On the palate, salted caramel, baked apple and warm spices unfold before the long finish fades with an elegant balance of sweet and salty notes. Old Pulteney 30 Years Old is bottled at 50.4% ABV and is limited to 1,000 bottles worldwide. Pricing information is also available on request. “As we approached Old Pulteney’s 200th anniversary, we wanted to create whiskies that embody everything Old Pulteney has stood for across generations. The 50 Years Old and the 30 Years Old are exceptional tributes to two centuries of whisky making on Scotland’s north coast. They honour our history while also representing the beginning of a new chapter as we look ahead to the next 200 years,” explains Burgess.

Both anniversary releases will be available from June 2026 through selected partners.
